A flue gas heat recovery device comprises a container 30 with first and second openings 32, (102, fig 5), a heat exchanger 60 and a thermal store 40. Flue gas passes from the first opening to the second opening and exchanges heat with liquid in the heat exchanger. The thermal store is in the form of a tank or tray having a plurality of gas flow paths 42, which may be formed from upstanding walls (130, 132, fig 8), extending upwardly from a floor of the tray. The thermal store may be an insert clipped into the container. The heat recovery device is used with a mounting bracket (120, fig 7a) having first and second gas flow apertures (122, 124). The device is used with a boiler to heat water for domestic hot water or central heating. The heat exchanger comprises one or more trays (62, fig 9) with the upstanding walls forming at least one liquid collection region, and at least one conduit or pipe (72) forming a flow path for a heat exchange fluid. The pipe is in thermal contact with the underneath of the tray (fig 9) and/or liquid in the liquid collecting region (fig 8).
