A sealing device 16 for sealing the cold-end part of a thermocouple wire arrangement that is based on a mineral-insulated cable 10 comprises a sealing element 17 made of or containing an electrically insulating material, having through-holes 18 for passing through wires 12 and a sealing ring 23 at its outer rim 22 to fix the sealing device to the sheath 11 or a support tube (31, Fig 7) of the cable. The sealing device also includes an electric temperature sensing element T for sensing an absolute temperature of the cold-end part. The reading from this is combined with the thermocouple reading to calculate the absolute temperature of the hot-end of the thermocouple. The temperature sensing element may be resistive, capacitive or inductive.
