The radar being equipped with a network antenna, the method comprises: a step of determining a set of pointing vectors each describing an angular arrival hypothesis and a Doppler pointing hypothesis of a received useful signal; for each pointing vector, a step of approximating a useful signal received in an angle and Doppler neighborhood around said vector producing an approximated spatio-temporal model in the vicinity of each of said pointing vectors; a detection step by comparison, with a given threshold, of a statistical characteristic (114) of a signal received from said target in the vicinity of a pointing vector with the spatio-temporal model corresponding to said neighborhood.
