An apparatus for measuring the weighted computed tomography air kerma index (CTDIw) and/or the volume computed tomography air kerma index (CTDIv) comprises a bare phantom (4) with a central housing (14), and a whole number p greater than or equal to 4 of peripheral housings (16, 18, 20, 22) or a single continuous annular peripheral housing, the peripheral housing or housings being located in the vicinity of and beneath a first external envelope surface (34). Scintillation and solid-phase detectors (24, 26, 28, 30, 32) are disposed individually and respectively in the housings (14, 16, 18, 20, 22) and have a detection material that that does not interfere, or interferes only to a small degree, with respect to the interaction between photon radiation emitted by a scanner and the material or materials of the bare phantom (4).
