The inventive system is used to establish and operate a nationwide network of battery changing stations for electric vehicles and especially electric bicycles. It consists of a plurality of changing stations, wherein a single change station includes a locker shelf (1), with a number of lockers (2) for different battery types (5). Each locker (2) has a power connector (8) with charging unit (6) for one or more specific battery types, as well as with measuring devices for determining the state of charge of the battery used.
