Disclosed is a target identification method to improve target identification performance by extracting a scattering point, to which scattering characteristics in accordance with geometrical features of a target are applied, from a received signal applying radar cross section (RCS) characteristics. According to the present invention, the target identification method comprises a step of performing Fourier transform of a received signal, which is a radiation signal for target detection, reflected while being applied with RCS characteristics, to generate a range profile; a step of considering an extremum of Fourier transform data in the generated range profile to extract at least one scattering point; a step of using the extracted scattering points to calculate a scattering characteristic vector to which the scattering characteristic of the target is applied; and a step of comparing the calculated scattering characteristic vector with scattering characteristic vectors in accordance with a scattering characteristic of each target model, which is previously prepared to identify the target and stored in a database, to identify a type of the target.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2018
