The present invention relates to a composition for screening for skin irritants and to a method for screening for skin irritants by using the same. When an IL-1ra gene of the present invention is treated with hydroquinone, retinoic acid, SLS, or urushiol, all of which commonly act as skin irritants, the expression amount is increased or decreased, so that harmful skin irritants can be screened for by using the gene.
