The present invention relates to a predictive control of a powertrain system, which comprises the following steps of: receiving vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) messages transmitted from at least one remote vehicle using V2V communications at a host vehicle; identifying at least one vehicle among the remote vehicles in a front area of the host vehicle based on information included in the received V2V messages; selecting the V2V messages which were received from at least one of the identified vehicles among the received V2V messages; and controlling a powertrain system of the host vehicle based on information included in the selected V2V messages.
