The present invention provides an apparatus and a method for estimating a social area of interest (AOI) by using data based space and text information collected from SNS servers. The apparatus comprises: a record collecting unit which collects all records tagged a space where a text contains a name of a point of interest (POI); a record classifying unit which, on the basis of a POI circle of the collected record, classifies records containing POI names and records not containing POI names; a performance calculating unit which, on the basis of the POI circle of the records, calculates a performance measure containing precision, recall, and F-measure; an optimizing unit which calculates an optimized radius from the F-measure calculated in the performance calculating unit; and a social AOI estimating unit which estimates a social AOI through a social AOI estimating algorithm which applies the precision and the recall calculated in the performance calculating unit to perform repetitive updates on the basis of the optimized radius calculated from the optimizing unit.
