Provided is a non-graphitizable carbonaceous material having a high charge-discharge capacity together with a high charge capacity and used for a negative electrode material of a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery (for example, a lithium ion battery) which is fully charged. Also provided is a negative electrode material for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery comprising such a non-graphitizable carbonaceous material, and a negative electrode material for such a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery, and to provide a fully charged nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery. A non-graphitizable carbonaceous material for a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery which is used in a fully charged state, wherein an oxygen element content is 0.25 mass% or less.
