The present invention relates to a method and a system for producing hydrogen gas using a sorbent-enriched reformer in combination with a calcining apparatus operated at atmospheric pressure. The feed material is introduced into the sorbent-enriched reformer to produce carbon dioxide and hydrogen gas. The sorbent material in the reformer acts to absorb the carbon dioxide and form the sorbent used. The sorbent used is introduced into an atmospheric calcining apparatus which heats the used sorbent to desorb the carbon dioxide from the sorbent used to produce a regenerated sorbent which can be recycled to the reformer.
