Disclosed in the present invention are a garlic skin-based activated carbon electrode material for use with a supercapacitor and a preparation method. Heating garlic skin to 550-700°C in an inert atmosphere; keeping the temperature constant for a period of time to carry out carbonization and obtaining a carbonized garlic skin material; then adding the carbonized garlic skin material into an alkali metal hydroxide solution and carrying out high-temperature immersion for a period of time to obtain an immersed material; subsequently heating the immersed material to 400-450°C to carry out low temperature activation; after carrying out low temperature activation for a period of time, continuing to heat the immersed material to 700-850°C to carry out high temperature activation, and obtaining an activated material after carrying out high temperature activation for a period of time; lastly, carrying out post-processing on the activated material to obtain activated carbon. The present invention causes activated carbon to be completely activated, increasing the specific surface area of the activated carbon material, and improving the energy density of supercapacitors.
