A method and apparatus for a virtual tour of a scenic area. The method comprises the following steps: receiving a virtual tour request from a user for a target scenic spot in a scenic area; determining a target tour device according to the virtual tour request; determining a tour route according to the position where the target tour device is currently located and the position of the target scenic spot; controlling the target tour device so that same follows the tour route; obtaining, in real time, a panoramic image captured by the target tour device; and pushing the panoramic image to a virtual reality device, so that the virtual reality device presents, to the user, the panoramic image of the scenic area along the tour route. By applying the method and apparatus provided in the embodiments of the present application, a user can view the real scenery without going to the actual scenic spot, and is given an immersive feeling, such that the user tour experience is improved.
