The present invention relates to immobilization of antigen from biological specimenson a solid surface microtiter plate and detecting the presence of bound Catherine 23 antigen with specific polyclonal antibody of subject having noise induced hearing loss. The monoclonal primary antibodiesof Catherine 23 bound to the Catherine 23 antigen are then further contacted with detectable antibodies. The level of the detectable antibodies bound to the Catherine 23 antigen are subsequently determined. The level of detected Catherine 23 antigen against its antibody is correlated with the degree of severity of noise induced hearing loss in the subject.
