The embodiments of the present invention provide a method of extracting pectin from orange peel. The method comprises the following steps. The orange peel is collected. The orange peel is pre-treated to obtain an orange peel powder which is mixed with acidic aqueous medium to obtain a solution mixture. The solution mixture is subjected to sonication. The pectin from acidic aqueous medium is separated by an alcohol washing. After alcohol washing, a gel comprising pectin is formed on the surface of acidic aqueous medium. The gel is separated from the acidic aqueous medium by filtering. The gel is washed with alcohol to obtain a precipitate comprising pectin. The precipitate is filtered to separate alcohol and alcohol soluble materials. The extracted pectin is dried and stored in a container. The method yields pectin in a range of 10-15 wt%. [FIG.1]
