Disclosed is a method of modeling drilling equipment to represent vibrational performance of the drilling equipment, the method comprising the steps at which two or more main excitation modes for bottom-hole assembly are defined; wherein each main excitation mode is weighed in respect of at least one other main excitation mode, and wherein the excitation modes are related to at least one drilling parameter associated with vibration; at least one surrogate is constructed representing at least a portion of a bottom-hole assembly; a frequency range model is used for imitation of response of at least one surrogate to excitations corresponding to the defined main excitation modes; one or more operating characteristics are defined for the imitated surrogate, wherein at least one of the operating characteristics is based, at least partially, on the imitated surrogate response in at least two main excitation modes and on relative weight of at least two main excitation modes; and one or more operating characteristics are used in selecting at least one of one or more configurations of the bottom-hole assembly and of one or more drilling plans for utilization in drilling operations.
