a system and method for establishing hydraulic communication between the relief and destination wells, wherein a relief well is drilled to include a portion of the destination well that is axially displaced from and substantially parallel to a portion of the well of relief. The drill system includes a lock assembly, a non-rotating shutter, and a drill barrel with loads that are radially oriented in a limited direction. piping column parameters are obtained during the drilling system execution and thereafter piping column parameters are used to engage the lock assembly with a locking coupling carried by the casing in the relief well. axial and rotational forces are applied to the pipe column to engage the lock assembly. discharge from the drill barrel produces holes only between the relief well and the destination well, establishing fluid communication.
