The present invention relates to a small molecule inhibitor for use in preventing the maturation of dental plaque biofilms. An additional application may be to reduce the risk of function-related diseases that derive from mature dental plaque biofilms. The invention also relates to the use of an effective amount of a small molecule inhibitor in a cosmetic product for the prevention of dental biofilm maturation. The present invention also relates to buccal compositions comprising an effective amount of a small molecule inhibitor suitable for preventing maturation of dental biofilms. The present invention further relates to a device for applying buccal compositions further comprising a buccal composition comprising an effective amount of a small molecule inhibitor suitable for preventing maturation of dental biofilms.
