The ultrasound system that performs cancer malignancy mapping includes an ultrasound imaging apparatus 10 that acquires ultrasound imaging data. The electronic data processing device 30 is programmed to generate an ultrasound image 34 from the ultrasound imaging data and to generate a cancer malignancy map 42, the cancer malignancy map 42 being (i) the ultrasound imaging. Extracting from the data a set of local features representing map pixels of the cancer malignancy map and (ii) a cancer rating classifier to generate cancer malignancy for the map pixels of the cancer malignancy map 46 is used to classify the set of local features. The display component 20 displays the cancer malignancy map superimposed on the ultrasound image, for example, as a color-encoded cancer malignancy map overlay. The cancer rating classifier is learned from a training data set 64 having a set of local features extracted from ultrasound imaging data at a biopsy site and labeled with histopathological cancer malignancy.
