The method involves directing a measuring light ray toward teeth (V) of a shaft with radial components. The measuring light ray reflected by the teeth is detected by a direction measuring device and processed for distance measurement of reflection surfaces of teeth from a point of reference. Distances of the reflection surfaces in different angle positions of the shaft are compared for determining rotation errors of the shaft. The rotation errors are removed or avoiding through adjustment between centering units by adjusting anvils and an adjusting hammer in a straightening press. An independent claim is also included for a device for measuring and adjusting rotation errors at a shaft.
