The invention relates to a system (3) for detecting the position of loudspeakers and for reproducing audio signals as surround sound. The system (3) has a base unit (1) with at least one signal processor (1a) and at least one loudspeaker (2, 2a-2i) for transmitting audio signals. The loudspeaker (2, 2a-2i) is arranged at a distance from the base unit (1) in a mounting space (5). The at least one speaker (2, 2a-2i) is configured to send out audio signals and to communicate with the signal processor (1a) of the base unit (1), send data to the base unit (1), and send data from the base unit (1) receive. The signal processor (1a) is configured to generate data for broadcasting audio signals and to receive data for determining a position and orientation of the at least one speaker (2, 2a-2i), the position and orientation of the at least one loudspeaker (2 , 2a-2i) are automatically detected and processed by the signal processor (1a). The invention further relates to a method for detecting the position of loudspeakers and for reproducing audio signals as surround sound with the system (3) according to the invention.
