The device for investigating the gear carrying capacity has at least one receptacle for the test object. It has at least one primary and at least one secondary reactor. The test object is a tooth of the gear wheel. The primary reactor has at least one primary pressure element and the secondary reactor at least one secondary pressure element. Both pressure elements are pressed by means of the actuators against the same tooth flank of the tooth. In the method of inspecting the gear carrying capacity, a primary and a secondary pressure element are applied under pressure to each other at the same tooth flank of a tooth of the gear, wherein the pressure elements are alternately applied with pressure for a time to the tooth flank.
