The present invention relates to an EGR system including a duct 48 having an inlet port 50 and an outlet port 52 wherein the duct 48 includes a first duct portion 54 having a first cross sectional area A1, A second duct portion 56 having a second cross sectional area A2 and a transition portion 58 disposed between the first duct portion 54 and the second duct portion 56. The transition portion 58 is formed in the transition portion 58 by the EGR gas 25 when the EGR gas 25 flows from the inflow port 50 toward the outflow port 52, The second virtual wall 74 is designed to be formed in the first duct portion 54 by the return flow 72 when the return flow 72 flows from the outlet port 52 toward the inlet port 50. [ The present invention also relates to a combustion engine (2) having such an EGR system (4) and a vehicle (1) containing such a combustion engine (2).
