The present invention relates to paper surface sizing. More particularly, the present invention relates to a starch-acrylic copolymer obtained by polymerizing dextrin, positive starch and an acrylic monomer in the presence of a base, a method for preparing the same, a composition comprising the copolymer for paper surface sizing, a method for treating a paper surface with the composition, and paper treated thereby. When carrying out paper surface sizing, treatment of a paper surface with the composition comprising the starch-acrylic copolymer according to the present invention can provide higher paper strength even with a reduced amount of starch as compared to the related art. In addition, it is possible to reduce the energy requirement for drying paper by virtue of a decrease in use of starch.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2017
