A mode selection assembly for selecting an imaging mode and methods for making and using the same. The mode selection assembly has a selecting ring for coupling with a lens barrel of an imaging device. When the imaging device provides a plurality of imaging modes, a desired imaging mode of the imaging device can be selected by turning the selecting ring. The selecting ring thereby can engage a contact switch attached to the selecting ring for connecting a selected pair of contacts attached to a lens ring to signal a user selection. In other embodiments, two photoelectric sensors attached to the lens ring can be provided for detecting the user selection. The mode selection assembly can advantageously be easily operated to select an imaging mode and have enjoyable operation feelings for the user.
