The sole plate (12C, 12D, 12F, 12G, 12, 82E) has a plurality of grooves (30C, 30E, 30F, 30G, 30) extending at least partially transversely relative to the sole plate (12C, 12D, 12F, 12G, 12, 82E) in the forefoot portion (14E, 14) of the foot (52) -facing surface (20, 47, 84), and a plurality of ribs (41C, 41E, 41F, 41G, 41) protruding at the ground-facing surface (20, 47, 84), extending at least partially transversely relative to the sole plate (12C, 12D, 12F, 12G, 12, 82E), and underlying the plurality of grooves (30C, 30E, 30F, 30G, 30). At least some grooves (30C, 30E, 30F, 30G, 30) of the plurality of grooves (30C, 30E, 30F, 30G, 30) are configured to be open when the sole structure (10A, 10C, 10D, 10E, 10F, 10G, 10, 12C) is dorsiflexed in a first portion (24) of a flexion range, and closed when the sole structure (10A, 10C, 10D, 10E, 10F, 10G, 10, 12C) is dorsiflexed in a second portion (26) of the flexion range that includes flex angles greater than in the first portion (24) of the flexion range.
