A method for correlating predicted data describing a subsurface region withobtained data describing the subsurfaceregion is provided. Data is obtained describing an initial state of thesubsurface region. Data describing a subsequent state ofthe subsurface region is predicted. A likelihood measure that determineswhether the predicted data is within an acceptable rangeof the obtained data is dynamically and/or interactively updated. Thepredicted data is compared with the obtained data using thelikelihood measure and determining a sensitivity of the predicted data if thepredicted data is not within an acceptable range of theobtained data as measured by the likelihood measure. Data describing theinitial state of the subsurface region is adjusted based onthe sensitivity before performing a subsequent iteration of predicting datadescribing the subsequent state of the subsurface region.The predicted data is outputted.
