Method to mitigate the consequences of an explosion of steam cloud unconfined due to the accidental release of a flammable gas in an open area, wherein: * means capable of releasing a product suppression acceleration flame dispersed in said area , * a signal is generated by a detector of said release of flammable gas, or by an operator, or by a flame near or explosion itself, or any combination thereof, * said signal activates the product release suppression acceleration of flame in said area and in a sufficient amount to transform the flammable cloud into a mixture of flammable product, air and said product suppression acceleration flame to avoid accelerations flame cloud explosion steam unconfined but leaves the flammable product burn in case of ignition, wherein the acceleration suppression product is a solid flame in powder form.
