A method of preparing metal-polyaniline nanocomposite thin film (202) for an E. coli sensor (200) is disclosed. Firstly, a liquid composition is formed by dissolving at least one metal in a polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) solution. Aniline and nitric acid (HNO3) are added to the liquid composition to form a metal-polyaniline nanocomposite 10 solution. The metal-polyaniline nanocomposite solution is spin-coated on a substrate (204) and forms the metal-polyaniline nanocomposite thin film (202). Further, the metal-polyaniline nanocomposite thin film (202) is annealed at 100oC-450oC and irradiated thereafter with gamma radiation in 0-30 kGy. Furthermore, a silver electrode (206) is sputtered on the metal-polyaniline nanocomposite thin film (202). 15 Also, the E. coli sensor (200) includes a plurality of conducting wires (208) soldered to the silver electrode (206).
