The present invention relates to a damping material suitable for use in a vibration damping member incorporated in a seismic isolation apparatus or the like having a laminated elastic body. In particular, the present invention provides a damping material comprising: a thermally conductive filler for damping applied vibrations by mutual friction, a graphite for damping the applied vibrations by friction at least with the thermally conductive filler, and a tuckifier resin, adhesiveness being imparted by the tuckifier resin, wherein the graphite is a crystalline flake graphite, and wherein the tuckifier resin includes a coal-based resin. Also provided is a vibration damping member using the damping material, and a seismic isolation apparatus incorporating the vibration damping member.
