The present disclosure is related to a method for removing crude oil impurities in water in spill zones by coating and adsorption of the hydrocarbons with ashes, oxidation with organic peroxides and subsequent removal or separation using magnets or decantation. The advantages of the proposed method are the high separation efficiency of oil/water mixtures (90-100%), as well as the use of common reagents lacking of significant toxicity to the environment. The main wood waste sources are: forestry operations, sawmills, board or plywood production, producing 23%, 50%, 55% of waste respectively, which is usually sold at $ 0.85 USD.
