The present invention provides a single stage solar photovoltaic array fed brushless DC motor drive for water pumping, whichcompletely eliminates a DC-DC power conditioning stage. The SPV array is directly connected to a VSI. The system is capable of operating the SPV array at its optimum power using the same voltage source inverter used for motor control. The proposed water pumping system also eliminates completely, the BLDC motor phase current sensors. The speed control of motor is achieved through the MPP voltage of SPV array. The bulky capacitor at the DC link is replaced with a low valued capacitor due to adapting a pulse width modulation (PWM) switching of VSI. Therefore, the proposed invention results in a simple, cost-effective and compact water pumping system with high efficiency and reliability. A satisfactory performance of the proposed invention is obtained, demonstrating its suitability for water pumping application.
