patent summary: "radar for subsurface visualization". The present invention relates to a method and system for obtaining reduced or eliminated surface interference sar images for detection of subsurface targets, and the method comprises the following steps: - selecting a first frequency and a angle of incidence for a radar signal such that the ratio of surface backscatter to subsurface target backscatter is significantly greater in vertical than horizontal polarization; - obtaining vertically and horizontally polarized sar images based on the same sar path exploring the first selected frequency and viewing angle; - the weighting and differentiation of vertically and horizontally polarized sar images such that surface backscatter is completely canceled between the two images and only the combination of the target backscatter components remains.
