summary compositions and methods for diagnosis and treatment of hyperthyroidism in pet animals an isolated DNA molecule is described comprising a fragment of the gene coding feline felinis as well as methods for its use. Methods for rational dietary development of food composition appropriate for administration to hyperthyroid affected feline pet animals are also provided, including (a) access to at least one database comprising an initial set of data on the functional gene profile of a sample of biological fluid or tissue of an animal aiming at the physiological condition of the animal,where the functional gene profile is that of the gene of nis feline; (b) access to at least one database comprising a second set of data concerning the effects of the bioactive components of the diet on the functional gene profile; (c) use of an algorithm extracted from those data sets, processing input data that define the physiological condition to produce a nutritional formula that promotes the welfare of a feline company animal affected by hyperthyroidism; and (d) preparation of a food composition based on the nutritional formula.
