It is an object of the present invention to provide a method for assisting selection of a therapeutic drug for patients with type 2 diabetes, a method for predicting the effect of the therapeutic drug, a test method, and a therapeutic method. In specimens (especially blood) derived from type 2 diabetes patients, when the selenoprotein P value was higher than the cut-off value, it was found that the effect of metformin administration was high, and the present invention was completed.
