PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: means for generating atomic hydrogen at a lower temperature than conventional techniques and, moreover, in atmospheric air; and a method for confirming existence of atomic hydrogen.SOLUTION: The production apparatus 100 of atomic hydrogen comprises: a reaction chamber 1; a light source 2 capable of radiating light containing light of 4.5 eV or more in the reaction chamber 1; and a feed section 3 capable of supplying a mixed gas of hydrogen molecules and an inert gas into the reaction chamber 1. The confirmation method comprises: contacting the subject gas with a material having a C-F bond to obtain a first gas; reacting a material contained in the first gas with reactive ions generated by atmospheric pressure corona discharge ionization; analyzing the product material by mass spectrometry including impact-induced dissociation; and judging that atomic hydrogen is contained in the subject gas when peaks based on existence of at least one of a precursor ion and a product ion containing hydrogen fluoride with a mass of 20 are detected.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
