PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multi-mode optical fiber and optical fiber transmission system that can reduce the propagation constant difference between propagation modes and can increase the number of propagation modes to 2 or more.SOLUTION: The multi-mode optical fiber includes: a center layer that extends from the central axis to the outside and has a constant refractive index; a ring core layer that is disposed outside the center layer and has a refractive index higher than that of the center layer; a trench layer that is disposed outside the ring core layer and has a refractive index lower than that of the ring core layer; and a cladding layer that is disposed outside the trench layer and has a refractive index higher than that of the trench layer. The refractive index of the cladding layer is set higher than that of the trench layer.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
