PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: branched optical path characteristic analyzing method and apparatus which are capable of measuring individual characteristic distributions of branched optical paths at high speed; and a branched optical path designing method which is capable of specifying a structure of branched optical paths whose characteristic distributions can be measured at high speed by using the branched optical path characteristic analyzing apparatus.;SOLUTION: A branched optical path characteristic analyzing method of the present invention includes: causing X (X is a natural number of 2 or more) probe light pulses having the same optical frequency to be incident from the upstream side of an optical splitter; thereafter, causing one pump light pulse having a different optical frequency from that of the probe light pulse to be incident; and receiving generated Brillouin scattering light to analyze the same. Further, when total extension is given to the branched optical path measuring target, an optimal number of branching that does not cause a large branching loss and pump depression easily, in order to maximize the measuring performance, is set to the maximum value obtained by a prescribed formula.;SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1;COPYRIGHT: (C)2017,JPO&INPIT
