FIELD: chemistry.SUBSTANCE: invention relates to quantum points of silver sulphide, radiating in near infrared spectrum area, and their application in biology. Quantum points of silver sulphide contain bound to the surface hydrophilic groups of mercaptan-containing hydrophilic reagent. Hydrophilic reagent is selected from mercaptoacetic acid, mercaptopropionic acid, cysteine, cysteamine, thioctic acid and ammonium mercaptoacetate or any their combinations. Method for obtaining said quantum points includes reaction of hydrophobic quantum points of silver sulphide with stoichiometric or excessive quantity of mercaptan-containing hydrophilic reagent in polar organic solvent.EFFECT: quantum points of silver sulphide have high fluorescence output, good fluorescence stability, good biocompatibility, uniform dimensions and can be used for visualisation of cells and for visualisation of biological tissues.7 cl, 5 dwg, 6 ex
