1. A method for monitoring an underground formation in which unconventional hydrocarbons are produced, wherein at least one inert gas is present in said underground formation, characterized in that the following steps are carried out: a) a diffusion model of said inert gas and a target hydrocarbon model are selected, wherein the model describes the change in concentration depending on time, depth and diffusion coefficient; b) at least one sample of the fluid present in the so-called zones is taken before hydrocarbon production f monitoring from the soil layer located above the underground formation, and measuring the composition of at least one inert gas inside the said sample; c) during and / or after the said hydrocarbon production, at least one second sample of the fluid present in the named monitoring zone, and the concentration of the named inert gas inside the second sample is measured; d) stage c) is repeated at various time points; e) when the named concentration of the named inert gas increases, the coefficient e cient diffusion of inert gas diffusion pattern so that the inert gas diffusion model was coherent with said measurements, and deduce the relation between the diffusion coefficient and the named called modified diffusion coefficient; ii) apply the above relation to the diffusion model of the named target hydrocarbon present in the named monitoring zone at time t.2.
