The present invention relates to a cutting tool which can form a uniform diamond coating layer at a desired part on a surface of the cutting tool rapidly, and especially has an edge part coated with a thick diamond coating layer. The cutting tool according to the present invention is a cutting tool which is formed in a pillar shape, and performs cutting machining as a center of a front end part is rotated to contact a workpiece. The front end part of the cutting tool is formed with a sintered alloy as a base material, and the diamond coating layer is formed on the front end part. In the diamond coating layer, the thickness of a thin film formed within 0.1R (R is a radius of the pillar tool) from the center of the front end part is thinner than a part closest to the diamond coating layer formed on the front end part.
