Information is created relating to the distribution of gas against the distance from a detection base point at which a light emitting and receiving unit for emitting and receiving detection light used to detect the gas is placed. A gas location detecting system 100 comprises: a radiating unit 21 which radiates light in a wavelength band absorbed by the target gas and light in a wavelength band not absorbed by the target gas; a light receiving unit 22 which receives light that has been radiated from the radiating unit, has passed through a space in which gas might be present, and has been reflected; a calculating unit 20A, 20B which generates gas detection information by calculating a ratio between light in the absorbed wavelength band and light in the unabsorbed wavelength band that has been received by the light receiving unit; and a gas distribution information generating means 20A (20B). The gas distribution information generating means generates information relating to the distribution of the gas against the distance from a plurality of detection base points at which the light emitting and receiving units (21, 22) are placed, on the basis of gas detection information obtained in relation to the plurality of detection base points using a gas detecting means, a distance L between two detection base points A and B, wherein optical paths corresponding to the gas distribution information and starting from the light emitting and receiving units intersect one another, and light radiation angles (α, θA, β, θB) relative to a straight line joining the two detection base points A and B.
