This multimodal intent understanding device is provided with: a speech recognition unit (1) which receives speech input from a user and performs processing to recognize the speech; a text analysis unit (2); a motion recognition unit (3) which receives an input of motion information about the user and performs processing to recognize the motion information; a motion vector conversion unit (4) which, on the basis of an intent integration rule, converts a motion symbol obtained as a result of the recognition of the motion information into a motion vector that can be integrated with an intent understanding result obtained as a result of the recognition of the speech, said intent integration rule predefining combinations of an intent understanding result and a motion symbol and also predefining integrated intent understanding results, each of which is associated with one of the combinations of an intent understanding result and a motion symbol and indicates an intent of the user; and an integrated intent understanding unit (6) which integrates the obtained intent understanding result with the motion vector and deduces an intent of the user from the integrated data.
