An automatic tuning method for a digital governor control apparatus, provided in the present invention, may comprise: (a) a step for initially setting a PID gain using a maximum rotation speed of an engine and a control signal output to an actuator by a PID controller in order to achieve the maximum rotation speed; (b) a step for performing PID control using the initially-set PID gain such that the rotation speed of the engine reaches a predetermined target speed; (c) a step for determining whether the difference between the target speed and the rotation speed of the engine according to the PID control exceeds a predetermined reference value, which causes hunting; (d) a step for, when it is determined that the hunting does not occur, setting a gain variable by which the PID gain is multiplied, and repeatedly performing step (b) to step (d) while increasing the gain variable until the hunting occurs; and (e) a step for, when it is determined that the hunting occurs, re-setting the PID gain by substituting the gain variable set when the hunting occurs and the hunting period of the rotation speed of the engine in the Ziegler-Nichols tuning formula. The present invention can stably and automatically tune a PID gain of a PID controller included in a digital governor control apparatus without separately operating a keypad or dial.
