This capsule endoscope has: an imaging unit set to either one of a first mode and a second mode, in imaging unit imaging a test subject and acquiring images of the test subject; a data acquisition unit for acquiring data other than images; and a controller for switching the mode to which the imaging unit is set to the first mode or to the second mode, on the basis of results of image analysis and results of data analysis. When the imaging unit has been set to the first mode, the controller switches the mode setting of the imaging unit to the second mode on the basis of the results of data analysis, and when imaging unit has been set to the second mode, the controller switches the mode setting of the imaging unit to the first mode on the basis of the results of image analysis.
