The invention relates to a method for limiting an amplitude spectrum or power density spectrum of signal components of an OFDM signal (x(t)) that has been generated by means of the OFDM method for a transmission of digital data. In this case, the signal components to be limited are situated outside a frequency band that is used for the data transmission. The method according to the invention involves the application (11, 22), in the frequency domain, to a number k of symbols ai to be transmitted, with an index i from 1 to k, of a coding based on a coding scheme F(ai) = (β/2*a1, α*a1, β/2*a1+ β/2*a2, α*a2, β/2*a2+ β/2*a3, α*a3, β/2*a3+ β/2*a4,..., β/2*ak+ β/2*ak-1, α*ak, β/2*ak), where a and ß are system-specific design parameters for the coding. The symbols coded according to the coding scheme (F(ai)) are then modulated (12, 23) onto a number (n) of orthogonal carrier frequencies (fi, f2, f3,..., fn) and an OFDM signal (x(t)) is formed (13, 14, 24, 25) therefrom in a time domain for the data transmission .
