Disclosed is an electromagnetic eddy-current damping speed-limiting device for preventing an engine run-away accident, comprising a load main shaft (1), a main engine (2) for providing power, a main engine output shaft (3), a damping speed-limiting device main shaft (4), a detector (5) for detecting a rotation speed of the damping speed-limiting device main shaft (4), a speed reducing device for reducing the speed of the damping speed-limiting device main shaft (4), and a control circuit, wherein the speed reducing device and a bearing are matched to be installed on the damping speed-limiting device main shaft (4); the left end of the damping speed-limiting device main shaft (4) is connected to the load main shaft (1) and the right end thereof is connected to the main engine output shaft (3), and the right end of the main engine output shaft (3) is connected to the main engine (2); the left end of the load main shaft (1) is externally connected to an impeller of a ship; the speed reducing device comprises a housing (6), two stators (7), a rotor (8) and exciting coils (9); and the control circuit comprises an automatic control apparatus (19), a silicon-controlled rectifying apparatus (20) and a manual controller. The speed-limiting device has a simple structure and can prevent a run-away accident of the main engine of the ship.
