An apparatus for correcting a power failure in an incoming band (12) having a first side (16) and a second side (14), the apparatus comprising: a band guide for carrying said incoming band and a vision system ( 18) to inspect whether the incoming band is properly oriented or inadequately oriented, said vision system being coupled to a controller and communicatively coupled to said band guide, the apparatus being characterized in that said band guide comprises a rotating ring (20) which carries a pair of guide plates (22) through which the incoming band is passed, said guide plates being able to act between a closed state, to effect a twist in the incoming band, and an open state to allow the splices of the incoming band; and the band guide is operable to receive a signal from said controller to initiate, if said guide plates are in the closed position, a correction sequence after said vision system detects an improperly oriented state.
