A method for creating a super-hydrophobic metallic surface on an industrial robot, where the industrial robot has a metallic surface of stainless steel or a stainless steel alloy, the method including firing a focused laser onto the metallic surface in a predefined pattern in order to create micro structures and/or nano structures in the metallic surface that mimic the structures found on naturally-occurring superhydrophobic surfaces such as the leaves of a lotus plant. Also an industrial robot with a super-hydrophobic metallic surface with micro structures and/or nano structures created with the method.
