The present invention relates to a novel process for the bacterial decolorization and degradation of dye effluent released from textile, pulp & paper and dye manufacturing industries by a novel bacterial species isolated from dye contaminated soil. Important is the Kocuria rosea species deposited in Microbial Type Culture Collection and Gene Bank, Institute of Microbial Technology, Chandigarh (India) vide accession number MTCC 5932. Current invention discloses activities of the Kocuria rosea MTCC 5932 in decolorization of textile dyes from aqueous synthetic solution and industrial wastewater. The accompanied process invention shows that simple biological treatment could also produce consistently effective results in treating a simulated wastewater containing different textile dyes under greatly varied conditions. The Kocuria rosea MTCC 5932 strain of the present invention is effective in removing from 53.8-99% of the color of wastewater.
